William R. Conklin

William (Bill) Conklin, 85, of Buchanan, NY and Sand Key, FL passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023, in Palm Harbor, FL.

He was born in Peekskill, NY on March 25, 1938 to William and Margaret (Foster) Conklin. As a young child he loved sleigh riding down Snake Hill, sold eggs door to door and won an award for collecting newspapers for the war. As a teen he loved to work on cars with his father and friends and crabbing at Steamboat Dock.

As a young newlywed he purchased the Corner Grocery & Deli in Peekskill with his family and began working on the NY Central Railroad as a third generation railroad man. He proudly spent 52 years, from 1955-2007 on NY Central Railroad and Metro North.

In 1989 he married Rose V. Steo. Bill and Rose for 34 years together enjoyed the majestic New York Westchester County area with their many friends and extended family. Bill was a gourmet chef specializing in his passion for Italian cuisine. He was a classic car enthusiast. His pleasant, laid-back personality was contagious to everyone he met. He will surely be missed.

Bill is survived by his wife Rose of 34 years and her children Susan Rose Rashkin (Joe) and John Steo (Sheryl). He is also survived by his first wife Patricia Conklin and their daughter Debra Clark Novo (Steve), son-in-law Andy Vichich and daughter-in-law Donna Conklin. He is also survived by his nephew Robbie and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill is predeceased by his father William and mother Margaret (Foster) Conklin, his sister Loretta Casasanta, his daughter Patricia Vichnich and his son William A. Conklin, and his stepson William Steo.

Funeral arrangements will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Serenity Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774
